Getting your Turkey direct from the farm
A unique farm experience
If you’ve never ordered a turkey directly from the farm, here are a few things to expect.
It’s a unique experience. We have generations of customers that make it a family tradition to collect their turkey. For most of our customers, Christmas has officially started once they collect their turkey. Now customers can get it delivered.
Please note: They are free range birds, they have been left to roam in nature. That means that sometimes they may have the odd bump, feather stub or imperfection as many artisan products do.
This year, we have reintroduced the traditional plucking methods Adrian’s grandfather used over 60 years ago. As such there may be the odd trace of food grade wax. It’s nothing to worry about, just wipe it off.
Collection/Delivery
While most household fridges run at +6-8 degrees, we advise you to turn yours down to 2 degrees when you get your turkey, our fridges run at about 1 degree - so we’re able to keep your turkey in the absolute best condition. With this in mind, we encourage you to collect your turkey as late as possible.
Our 2020 collection dates are as follows: Tuesday December 22 and Wednesday December 23, 6:30am to 7pm, and Christmas Eve, 6:30am to 12 noon.. Plan your collection - please don’t leave it to the last minute though. If you’ve chosen delivery please see delivery details.
If you’re collecting it, although we ask you which day you want to collect it, we don’t hold you to it. We just want to know so we can have enough of a team to serve you all. We don’t ask or give strict times for collections (unlike most supermarkets) as we know you are busy and sometimes things get in the way.
How long will it take to collect?
Most of the time, you’ll be in and out in a few minutes. You may have to wait a little bit if you all turn up together! We recommend to customer to come at less social times within our collection times. Christmas eve (morning) is by far the busiest day, so please don’t leave it till the last minute.
The Farm
You are buying direct from the farm.
We don’t have a shop, you will be collecting from our main building - it’s not fancy, we’re a working farm and we open the doors to customers only a few days a year. Note: this year it’ll be a new entrance & one way system.
You will however get a high welfare bird direct from source.
They are award winning, great tasting free range turkeys reared on the same farm you collect from in the beautiful Surrey Hills.
The photo is of Mr Guy & his son. He has been buying his turkey from Bramble Farm for over 54 years. See some of our other customer stories and reviews
Changes to 2020 collection process
This year, we have introduced a number of safety precautions to help protect our team and our customers while you are picking up your Bramble Farm Turkey for Christmas 2020 from our farm.
For peace of mind for all and to help things run smoothly on collection days, there will be:
A new one way system. There will be a new way in (& the exit will be the entrance you may previously have used).
Our QR scan check-in code will be available to check-in to our location with your mobile phone
Payments - If you have not paid in full, our card machines will be sanitised between customers. Please avoid paying by cash if you can. If you do, please bring the right amount to avoid us having to handle money.
Hand sanitiser stations will be available
Two metre social distancing
Face coverings must be worn by all
Screens between customers and staff
Staff wearing masks/face shields
Collections are usually very quick, but please be prepared to wait a little longer than usual. We’ll do our best to serve you as quickly as possible.
Once you get it home
Take the turkey out of the box
Leave in its bag, place in the bottom of the fridge
Please TURN THE FRIDGE DOWN to 2 degrees.
Please note: They are free range birds, they have been left to roam in nature. That means that sometimes they may have the odd bump or imperfection as many artisan products do.
Please don’t keep it outside or in the garage, If you need to chill your booze, you can take the bird out earlier on xmas day. We cannot stress it enough, a turkey is a perishable item and we cannot guarantee it’s condition if it it’s not kept in the fridge.
On Christmas day
Take the turkey out of the fridge at least two hours before cooking to get the bird to start warming up.
Take out the giblets and neck, which are usually inside the cavity in a plastic bag. Please note: although we try and include the giblets and neck with every bird, sometimes they may get damaged and can’t be included. Please check when you get home & if you’re local and it is still within the collection days - please pop down and see if we have any spare. If you call, we try and pick up, but it’s often all hands on deck.
They cook quicker
If you haven’t cooked a Bramble Farm Turkey before, they generally cook 30% quicker than most, so we suggest you check our cooking times and tips.
