Christmas turkey pizza
This year we have more turkey leftovers than usual and lockdown means we have more time to test some new recipes.
we love outdoor living and are the proud owners of a small pizza oven. So, why not try turkey pizzas.
Ingredients
Pre-made pizza bases, pizza base mix or find a pizza base recipe. (we haven’t made this, but Sainsburys do a quick pizza dough recipe that gets 28K 5 stars, so it must be goo)
6-8 tbsp tomato pizza sauce (we often cheat with supermarket bought sauce) - here is a 5 star 5 minute pizza sauce recipe.
1-2 handfuls ( 50-100g) leftover sausage meat or stuffing
2-3 handfuls of thinly sliced or shredded leftover cooked turkey
100g Buffalo mozzarella , sliced
A few leaves of sage (fresh or frozen) ripped or chopped
1/4 red onion sliced thin (optional)
1/4 pepper sliced/diced (optional)
6-12 olives sliced (optional)
What you put on your pizza is optional and personal taste. We like to load ours up, but you may be more of a minimalist, so no need to stick to these ingredients or volumes.
Method
Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7 or instructions on pizza base pack. (in this version, we actually used an outdoor pizza oven)
Make your pizza bases (unless like us - you’ve bought them)
Spread your pizza sauce on your base
Chop all your ingredients and place into piles - turkey, mozzarella, onion, peppers, olives etc.
Sprinkle ingredients evenly onto your pizza bases, ripe and sprinkle sausage meat on too.
Cook pizza 10-15 mins until mozzarella is melted and bases are crispy. We used a pizza oven which is much hotter at 350-450 degrees so only took 1-2 mins.
Alternatives, if we’d cooked a ham we’d add ham leftovers and sprouts?
Have fun and enjoy.
This recipe was based on a BBC Good Food pizza recipe in case you want to try the original.
